Crafting a Scalable E-Commerce and Brand Identity for a Plant-Based Bakery

Objective

Vicked Good, Malaysia’s first 100% plant-based bakery, approached us to create a new e-commerce website to streamline their order process and enhance their online presence. They needed a solution that would not only facilitate easier order management but also offer a more visually appealing and user-friendly experience for their customers. Additionally, they lacked a cohesive color theme, brand identity, or supporting collaterals to unify their visual presence. We took on the challenge of designing a complete brand overhaul, including the website, a unique visual identity, and key assets like their café menu to create a seamless and engaging experience for their audience.

Challenges

  • Existing website lacked e-commerce functionality.
  • Orders were manually taken through WhatsApp.
  • Difficult to manage and keep track of increasing order quantities.
  • Previous design was not visually appealing.
  • Navigation was not user-friendly, making it hard for users to find what they were looking for.

Discovery

Through extensive preliminary and secondary research, we analyzed the buying patterns of Vicked Good’s target market and conducted a competitor analysis. This research helped us identify gaps in the market and weaknesses in their previous website. Using journey maps and user flows, we crafted a strategic action plan to enhance the website’s usability and functionality.

Colour theme

Reflecting the brand’s plant-based ethos, we chose green as the primary color, utilizing various shades to create a cohesive and inviting look. Dark grey text complements the green, maintaining a simple yet impactful aesthetic.

Typography

To achieve a balance between elegance and friendliness, we selected ‘Fraunces’ for titles and ‘Poppins’ for paragraphs. This combination ensures readability and versatility, aligning perfectly with the brand’s identity.

Design

In the design phase, our focus was on searchability, scalability, and visual appeal. We minimized distractions while incorporating soft, appealing elements to retain user interest. The result is a user-friendly, visually engaging website that effectively supports Vicked Good’s growth and customer needs.

Scalability

To ensure scalability, we implemented slider images that allow the client to easily update and customize the number and content of slides based on occasions or promotions. This flexibility ensures the website remains dynamic and relevant.

User Friendliness

The inclusion of a hamburger menu improves both scalability and searchability, providing a seamless navigation experience regardless of future expansions. Additionally, detailed filtering options were designed to enable users to quickly locate desired items with minimal effort, reducing the number of clicks and enhancing overall efficiency.

Bite-sized Information

Understanding the importance of storytelling in engaging users with a brand, we broke down the company’s background into bite-sized, easily digestible pieces. Utilizing micro design elements, we presented this information in a visually appealing way, making it easier for users to absorb and connect with the brand’s story. This approach not only informs but also fosters a deeper connection with the audience.

Data-driven Suggestions

Personalized product recommendations were incorporated based on user behavior insights and data analysis. This feature promotes upselling by offering meaningful and relevant options, driving sales while enhancing the user’s shopping experience.

Why the design works

This project was a true reflection of our passion for creating meaningful designs that make a difference. Working with Vicked Good, a plant-based bakery dedicated to sustainability, was both inspiring and fulfilling. The design works because it seamlessly blends user-centered functionality with a visual identity that reflects the brand’s ethos. Every feature was thoughtfully crafted to simplify the customer journey, promote scalability, and celebrate their plant-based mission.
